Summary
In the past 2 years Social Layer has been providing coordination tooling for Zuzalu pop-up cities, we have brought this project to Vitalia, Edge Esmeralda, Aleph (Crecimiento) and ShanhaiWoo.
Social Layer is built with off-chain login & on-chain DID systems, and is interoperable with Zupass.
We propose to create a shared map and calendar for Devcon 2024: provide access perks to attendees with ZK technology, offering additional perks such as selected event highlights and providing adoption of ethereum to the greater SEA communities.
Abstract
Our community made this above map for Edcon 2024 in Tokyo, we want to make something similar for Devcon with a lot more additional features such as:
- integrate Zupass to give special access & recommendations of side events to Devcon attendees
- highlight side events that offer free ticket & premium access to Devcon ticket holders
- Issue collectible PODs for attending various side events that can be collected in Zupass.
- more detailed filter feature on map (event themes, venue types, activity duration, etc…)
- implementing treasure hunt collectible gameplay mechanism with zk-implemented geo markers
Motivation & Rationale
How would this enhance attendee experience?
For Devcon attendees that are visiting from other countries, participating in Devcon is a great way to explore activities all around. Having this map would provide nearby recommendations put up by the Devcon community. Attendees can easily browse and further connect with each other while exploring Thailand.
How does this proposal introduce attendees to a novel blockchain/ethereum usecase?
Attendees can unlock special perks with their Zupass. Host of events can also enable ticketing / fundraising module with crypto payment to raise funds & charge for events.
Implementation
Has any part of this proposal been implemented at other events?
We used this map at ZuSocial, ZuConnect, Edge Esmeralda, Shanhaiwoo, Vitalia and Aleph. We have provided these month-long pop-up cities a tool to coordinate, discover and propose events and markers, and further connect with each others.
Here’s a summary of what we brought to Edge Esmeralda:
We have been implementing more features, refining our UX with a full time team in the past months, improving Social Layer as we travel with our partners and collect first hand feedback from them. We integrated Zupass prior to Edge Esmeralda, and we’re working on more DID integrations soon.
We have added web3 ticketing / payment in the last month, and we will be working on better UX for our map feature in the next few weeks.
Do you require feedback or data from attendees post-event?
We’d love to collect feedback from attendees to help us improve our product.
Operational Requirements & Ownership
What actions are required to implement the proposal at Devcon
What we will build:
- Working with zupass, we will create a pop-up city style event calendar and map for Devcon attendees

- Devcon team to help us connect with side event hosts
Who will be responsible for the proposal to be implemented effectively
The Social Layer operations team:
- Nico nico@sola.day
- Eggy eggy@sola.day
- Jiang jiang@sola.day
