  6. Introduction: What We Want to Create

We propose to organize a dedicated childcare service during Devconnect to make the event more inclusive and family-friendly. This initiative seeks to support parents, especially women, so they can attend and participate in Devconnect without having to worry about childcare during the day.

By doing this, Devconnect can become a benchmark for inclusion within the Web3 ecosystem, actively reducing barriers that disproportionately affect caregivers.

  1. Why Childcare Is Important at Devconnect
  • Inclusivity: A family-friendly ecosystem allows broader participation from parents and caregivers.
  • Equity: Women disproportionately shoulder caregiving responsibilities; this initiative helps bridge that gap.
  • Accessibility: Not everyone has a support network in every city. A childcare space empowers more people to attend.
  • Community-Building: Offering childcare sends a strong message of care and support from the event’s organizers.
  • Long-Term Impact: Normalizing these services sets a precedent for other conferences in the Web3 space.
  1. Requirements & Initial Ideas
  • Onsite location: The childcare space must be inside the main venue (not outsourced to an external site).
  • Restricted Access: Children will not be allowed to leave the designated area unless accompanied by a registered parent or authorized guardian.
  • ID Wristbands: Each child and parent will receive matching wristbands to ensure safe check-in and check-out.
  • Age Group Division: Children will be grouped by age to allow for better supervision and more age-appropriate activities.
  • Tech Activities for Kids (Ages 8–12): We will offer fun, educational activities related to the event, such as Techno Kits, intro to coding, and creative workshops.
  • Mini School Day for Younger Kids (Ages 3–7): Activities will be designed around storytelling, crafts, and sensory play.
  • Minimum Age: Children must be at least 3 years old to attend.
  • Professional Childcare Agency: We plan to hire a certified external agency to ensure the children’s safety and care.
  • Funding Request: We are seeking a grant to fund the agency costs and to make this service accessible to all parents.
  • Volunteer Support: If there are Devconnect volunteers available, their help would be highly appreciated to support logistics and operations on-site.
  • Time-Slot Reservations: Parents will need to book time slots in advance to ensure smooth coordination and optimal child-to-staff ratios.
  • Bathroom Safety Protocol: Only one designated staff member will be in charge of accompanying children to the bathroom, to maintain consistency and ensure safety.
  1. Why MEC Is the Right Team for This
