DIP-70: Road to Devconnect: Colombia Edition

:dart: Motivation & Rationale

  • Attendee Experience: This initiative brings Devconnect energy directly to Latin America, engaging developers and Ethereum enthusiasts across Colombia through a week of meetups and an online hackathon. It creates inclusive, hands-on experiences in diverse cities — Cartagena, MedellĂn, Bogotá, and Cali — while building momentum toward Devconnect Argentina 2025.

  • Ethereum Use Cases Showcased:

    • Self-custodial payments for swag, food, and tickets (USDC, stablecoins)
    • Proof-of-participation NFTs + Gitcoin Passport
    • DAO tooling for voting and coordination
    • ZK Roll-ups, Privacy, and Cryptography
    • Chainlink Functions, Safe, and on-chain identity
    • Rollup ecosystems like Optimism, Base Polygon, Gnosis/

:hammer_and_wrench: Implementation

  • Prior Experience: We’ve organized regional web3 events since 2022, including Ekinoxis Labs OTC onboarding in LATAM, co-organized ETHBogotá meetups, and supported Gitcoin bounties in Spanish-speaking communities. Our team includes members from Colombia, Peru, and Mexico.

  • How It Will Work:

    • A week-long online hackathon with themed bounties sponsored by leading protocols
    • IRL meetups in four cities — each hosted at a free venue (universities and innovation hubs)
    • Integration of on-chain engagement: POAPs, quests, raffles, and token-gated content
    • Collaboration with Devconnect-bound builders from Argentina, Peru, and Mexico
    • All events are free to attend, with incentives funded through sponsorships

:gear: Operational Requirements & Ownership

  • Needs:

    • Promotion via Devconnect/EF channels
    • Hackathon platform support (Gitcoin, Devpost, Replit)
    • Protocol sponsors for bounties, speakers, swag (e.g., Optimism, Arbitrum, ENS, Gnosis)
    • Optional: Devconnect ticket allocation for winning teams
  • Who’s Responsible:

  • Lead Organizers:

    Local Venues available:

    • Cartagena: Uni Cartagena, Centro Historico
    • MedellĂn: Ruta N, EAFIT, Platohedro, Hash
    • Bogotá: UniAndes, Platzi, UxTIC
    • Cali: Universidad ICESI, Zona America Colombia,

    Volunteer & speaker network:

    • Local devs, university partners, and online mentors.
  • Composability:

    • Can integrate with other DIPs (e.g., passport systems, treasure hunts)
    • Hackathon themes can align with global ecosystem goals (Regens, Infra, DAO tooling)

Thank you for the initiative and for including regional actors in this exciting proposal.

However, we kindly request that our name (Celo Colombia) not be used in any public documentation, proposals, or communications without our prior consultation and approval.

We appreciate the spirit of collaboration and support efforts that promote Ethereum adoption in Latin America, but alignment and consent are essential when representing organizations or brands in public-facing initiatives.

Thank you for your understanding.

— Celo Colombia Team

Hi @celocol Team,

Thanks for your message. I understand your request and will avoid using your name in public materials without prior approval. That was not the goal, it’s not something focused in you or any org or community mentioned, so please avoid any sentence suggesting that please.

There are plenty organizations and communities in colombia and the goal here is spark a collaboration between all them. I just identified you like one tentative participant, contributor or leader in the region.

My intention was to recognize regional efforts and extend an open invitation to collaborate — not to misrepresent or assume participation. If you don’t want to participate, it’s ok we understand it.

We hope this isn’t taken personally, and respect your decision either way.

Hope to count with you on these kind of ideas in colombia in the future or any other.
