Title: Ethereum TV, a discovery layer for Devcon

What do you suggest?
Ethereum TV is an open, searchable archive of Ethereum conference talks. We gather the speakers, communities, events and topics of the past 15 years into one delightful experience.
We propose to make the complete Devcon and Devconnect catalog fully enriched and searchable on Ethereum TV before Devcon 8, to publish Devcon 8 talks on the day the official recordings go live, and to release the enriched catalog data with transcripts as an open dataset under CC BY 4.0, so the whole ecosystem, including the Devcon team, can build on it.
We are fully remote and ask for nothing physical: no cash, no tickets, no floor space.
Motivation & Rationale
Many of us found our way into Ethereum through Devcon recordings, long before we could attend one in person. That is exactly the audience this proposal serves: the builder in Pune, Lagos, or Bogota who will not be in Mumbai but wants to catch every talk that matters to them.
Devcon 8 in India makes this sharper. India has one of the largest developer populations in the world, and most of them will experience Devcon 8 through recordings. Making those recordings, and a decade of prior Devcon talks, properly searchable is a small piece of infrastructure with a long tail of impact. As part of this we would curate an Ethereum in India collection, gathering talks by Indian builders across all events and editions.
Ethereum TV is free and open to everyone, no account needed, and it’s built as an open project: the catalog dataset is published under CC BY 4.0 (attribution only), the application code under AGPL-3.0, and the topic taxonomy and database schema are public.
Implementation

Ethereum TV has been in active development since March 2026 and launches publicly at the beginning of September, two months before Devcon 8, with over 1,000 enriched talks.

The archive already includes recent Devcon and Devconnect editions, enriched per our curation guidelines: verified dates, full speaker names, taxonomy tags, descriptions, transcripts.

The topic taxonomy and database schema will be published openly in August.
Deliverables:

At launch (early September): 1,000+ enriched talks live and searchable, with recent Devcon and Devconnect editions covered in full, and the catalog dataset published under CC BY 4.0.

Before Devcon 8 (end of October): the complete Devcon and Devconnect back-catalog, every edition, searchable in one place.

On the day of the official Devcon 8 uploads: recordings indexed, tagged, and searchable as they land, with a dedicated Devcon 8 channel and speaker pages updated, and the enriched Devcon 8 metadata added to the open dataset.
Nice to have:
- The Devcon 8 program browsable on Ethereum TV before the event, if we get schedule metadata access.
- An Ethereum in India curated collection, live before the event.
- Devcon 8 live channel relaying the official streams, with the team’s blessing, so remote viewers can watch Devcon happen in real time.
- Wrap-up blog posts sharing Devcon 8 highlights in the days after the event, linking into the archive.
- Searchable transcripts on Devcon 8 talk pages, so talks can be found by what was said, not just by title.
- Swarm/Etherna links surfaced alongside YouTube links where they exist.
- Post-launch: a public read API and MCP server, so builders and AI agents can query the Devcon corpus directly.
Operational Requirements & Ownership
What actions are required to implement the proposal at Devcon? Almost none on-site; we work entirely remotely from the recordings. What would help:
- A few posts from Devcon comms at the moments they are most useful to attendees: when Ethereum TV launches in September, when the complete Devcon back-catalog goes live in October, and during Devcon 8 itself, while we index talks the day they land and run the live channel.
- Access to talk metadata (Pretalx or schedule API: titles, speakers, tracks, timestamps) to speed up enrichment, and a liaison we can ping with metadata questions.
- A link on the Devcon archive page pointing to Ethereum TV, for example a “Search these talks on Ethereum TV” button, the way DIP-38 added a CTA for Fileverse.
- Links from the Devcon 8 schedule once recordings are up: each session pointing to its talk page on Ethereum TV.

What other projects could this proposal be integrated with?
Swarm/Etherna (DIP-19, DIP-34): we surface their decentralized copies alongside the YouTube source. ZK AV Club (DIP-70): if a recording station returns for Devcon 8, we would gladly index the hallway-track sessions too. Meerkat (DIP-45, DIP-72): talk pages could link to the Q&A that happened in the room. The Devcon livestream team: our live channels could feature the official streams during the event. And since the dataset is CC BY 4.0, the Devcon website, app, or archive page could pull the enriched metadata directly and use it however is most useful.
