MATE
Problem:
Many Ethereum apps have financial risk for users, making it harder for newcomers to try them out.
Solution:
We have launched MATE token: a non-monetary token (it holds no economic value), so users can try out new technology with training wheels in a gamified way.
The goal for accumulating MATE? Making it redeemable for prizes at Devconnect.

MATE markets: Onboarding users to prediction markets
We propose the development and deployment of MATE Markets: a lightweight, engaging, and socially-driven play-money prediction market platform using the Precog Protocol. The goal is to allow the Ethereum and DevConnect communities to forecast fun and relevant questions, such as how many people will attend DevConnect or whether specific public figures like Vitalik or Javier Milei will attend.
Here’s an example: https://core.precog.market/8453/7
This initiative aims to:
- Provide a novel onboarding funnel into prediction markets and decentralized applications.
- Foster social interaction and collective intelligence around Ethereum event participation.
- Demonstrate the versatility of Precog for low-stakes, high-engagement experimentation.
Past Work
The Precog team worked on many initiatives related to the Ethereum Ecosystem.
Last year, we launched Social Stereo, letting users interact with Zupass, EAS, and Stamp to vouch for songs, DJs, and Karaoke enthusiasts.
We designed a campaign to promote the meme: Powered by Ethereum. You can check it out here.
Petra has also founded Agora City (ex Zuzagora), Zuzalu’s forum, the first external product to incorporate Zupass authentication. Also organized ZuTechDay in Thailand last year and Builder Monastery in Portugal.
Marto has launched OSS initiatives such as Dai Auctions.
Conclusion
MATE Markets is a simple but powerful experiment in making prediction markets socially relevant and onboarding-friendly. Built with Precog, it leverages DevConnect’s unique community energy to test playful forecasts, increase engagement, and broaden the understanding of decentralized applications.
We believe this experiment can act as a blueprint for prediction-powered participation at many future Ethereum events.
