I was chatting with @wslyvh and @nethan.eth about some possible activations that devcon could run with JokeRace (jokerace.io) and wanted to drop some quick ideas below.
-
Demo Days/Community Awards for best projects. Projects can all present, and the audience can watch and vote in real-time on who wins. With vote-and-earn enabled, they can buy votes, and their funds go into a rewards pool for voting on the winner, so they can even earn from voting. This creates massive incentive for people to watch and participate since they can earn from it. Polygon, Arbitrum, Avalanche, and Story have all run demo days on JokeRace or are in the process of doing so.

Art contest to design the ticket. This could be done in collaboration with a product like Poster.Fun or Basepaint: artists could all enter designs for tickets, and community could vote on which wins (again with vote-and-earn). To see a recent art contest on JokeRace, check out the MegaEth community’s contest: https://jokerace.io/contest/base/0xc393f50a0b1f608e9152114d0dd7c9c786eb4fe3

A guest speaker slot where people can all vote on who gets to speak and earn if they pick winner. Again, vote-and-earn would provide real incentive for people to participate. Celestia and EthDenver have each used JokeRace for this in the past.
-
A contest to give out tickets to people who write best memes/tweets on devcon, with an allowlisted jury.

a special sponsor contest – let people enter and buy up votes to sponsor, much like an auction, but here devcon can collect on everyone buying up votes, not just 1st place. it uses onchain mechanisms as a whole new model for sponsorship while drawing massive marketing as those communities work to get votes.
