Title: FOCG Treasure Hunt
Authors: Daniel Kronovet (@kronosapiens) and the Cartridge team
Resources Required: ~3 small rooms (closets, etc)
What do you suggest?
A multi-stage treasure hunt for DevConnect participants, mixing virtual games with real-world puzzles, culminating in an IRL event for participants who complete the adventure. The goal is to excite and inspire participants with a fun, accessible, and novel experience, as well as increase exposure to onchain games more broadly.
Motivation & Rationale
- Fully onchain games (FOCG) are a niche but growing use-case for Ethereum L1 and L2s. While historically criticized for unsustainable economics and shallow gameplay, the FOCG ecosystem has made major strides towards better designed and more engaging experiences. This activation would showcase some of the recent games in the Cartridge/Dojo ecosystem, as well as provide compelling IRL puzzles and challenges for DC participants.
- This activation would showcase the cutting edge of onchain gaming infrastructure, primarily through the gaming ecosystem of the Starknet L2. Through advanced STARK technology, Starknet has enabled a level of game performance unmatched on other chains, and has advanced the state-of-the-art for onchain games broadly.
Implementation
- I have supported and collaborated with the team at Daedalus Industries and Social Dist0rtion Protocol in their past escape room and treasure hunt activations at ETHBerlin and Devcon7, which gave me experience with the planning and logistics of executing in-conference treasure hunts. I have been a smart contracts engineer for over 6 years, and am quite familiar with the process of writing and deploying smart contracts.
- If accepted, I will work with the rest of the Cartridge team to plan the specifics of the treasure hunt, which we anticipate will involve a mixture of ~3 onchain game challenges, and ~3 IRL puzzles, orchestrated through a single browser-based “treasure map” game board. I will be the technical lead, while other teammates will provide support on logistics, marketing, and production.
Operational Requirements & Ownership
- We will need a commitment of ~3 small-ish spaces in the venue to convert into IRL puzzle stages as a part of the treasure hunt. We will also need a commitment to surface the treasure hunt in the event’s PWA to enable easy discoverability.
- Myself and the rest of the Cartridge team will be responsible for operations.
- We are open to integrating with other Starknet-based fully onchain games and including them as part of the treasure hunt.
