Infinite QR Codes: A Decentralized Architecture for Visual Culture
Infinite QR Codes is an immersive installation that transforms physical space into a decentralized architecture for digital art. Hundreds of QR codes become portals to works by artists building on Ethereum and the decentralized web.
In this environment, every artist is represented equally: there are no names, hierarchies, or visual distinctions. Each contribution exists only as a QR code, and its identity is revealed only when someone chooses to scan it. Discovery replaces visibility algorithms, creating a more democratic way of experiencing art.
The project explores how blockchain and decentralized technologies can reshape cultural infrastructure, turning architecture into an open, permissionless exhibition where every scan becomes an act of participation, curiosity, and connection.
Motivation & Rationale
- How does this improve the attendee experience? Infinite QR Codes transforms visitors from passive viewers into active participants. Instead of following a curated list of featured artists, attendees explore the exhibition by scanning QR codes to discover artworks, projects, and creators one by one. They can connect with artists’ Ethereum profiles and, when available, purchase artworks directly. Because every artist is represented equally, the installation removes traditional hierarchies and encourages curiosity, participation, and meaningful connections between artists, builders, and audiences. Visitors also become part of the experience by photographing themselves inside the immersive QR environment.
- What Ethereum use case does it showcase? Infinite QR Codes demonstrates Ethereum as infrastructure for decentralized cultural participation. It showcases how Ethereum can support an open, permissionless ecosystem where hundreds of artists are represented equally, without centralized gatekeepers or algorithmic ranking. The project highlights decentralized identity, digital ownership, and on-chain creative communities, while exploring how blockchain can become the foundation for a new kind of museum, one that is open, transparent, and collectively built by its participants.

Have you done this before at another event? Yes. Infinite QR Codes has been presented at art events in Milan, Dubai, Miami, Austin, Cádiz, Buenos Aires, and Neuquén, Patagonia (Argentina). Each installation features a different group of artists and entirely new content. While the exterior may appear similar, every edition is unique, creating a new immersive experience shaped by the participating artists and the local context.

How will you make it happen? The project begins with an open call inviting artists building within the Ethereum ecosystem from around the world. Rather than curating or selecting a small group of participants, the installation embraces inclusivity by featuring everyone who submits a work, reinforcing the project’s decentralized philosophy.
Each artwork is assigned a unique QR code, which becomes its physical representation within the installation. These QR codes are then composed into a site-specific architectural design covering the walls, and optionally the floor and ceiling, creating an immersive environment that can range from a 3×3 meter installation to much larger formats depending on the venue.
The QR compositions are printed on vinyl and installed on-site, transforming the space into a decentralized museum.
To enrich the experience, the installation can also include projection mapping or screens displaying generative visuals, featured artworks, or live Ethereum ecosystem content. While optional, these elements add another layer of engagement and help connect the physical installation with the dynamic nature of digital culture and Web3.
The modular nature of Infinite QR Codes allows it to adapt to different venues and scales, making each implementation unique while maintaining the project’s core concept of decentralized participation.
Operational Requirements & Ownership
- What’s needed to make this work at Devcon/nect? A 3×3 m (or larger) space, wall surfaces for the QR installation, basic power, and installation support. An optional screen or projector would enrich the experience.
