Lagos, Nigeria. Blockchain adoption in Africa is on the rise, and Lagos, Nigeria leads the pack. Lagos as a tech hub has attracted Tech giants such as Jack Dorsey, and Mark Zuckerberg, among others.

Web3Bridge, a blockchain company that has trained top-notched blockchain developers, has collaborated with Ethereum, Polygon, Nahmii, Consensys academy, and a host of other blockchain companies.

33.4 million Nigerians currently own or have traded cryptocurrencies. Lagos doesn’t only have a youthful population, it is a tech hub with thriving Ethereum communities, blockchain centers, and training facilities.

Country and Entry

1. What are the visa restrictions for the country?

Nigeria is one of the easiest countries to obtain her visa. Visitors are required to have a passport with a minimum of 6 months to gain entry.

2. How easy is the international access?

A lot of countries can visit Nigeria visa-free and a host of other visa-on-arrival destinations

3. What about the safety and political stability of the region?

The FDI that Lagos attracts speaks volumes about the city. It is known for its huge expatriate population, a host to most foreign embassies, and known as the tech and economic nerve center of Nigeria, whatever happens in Lagos trickles down to other parts of Nigeria.

4. How expensive are venue rentals, accommodation, food, and transport?

5. What is the climate during Q3/Q4?


October is a hot autumn month in Lagos, Nigeria, with the average temperature varying between 30.4°C (86.7°F) and 22.3°C (72.1°F).

Landmark event center, Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. This venue has hosted a number of international events, has a capacity of 5000, and is a great venue with necessary facilities; capacity, internet, security, and tranquility.

1. How easy is the transportation in the city (between venues, airport, etc.)?

Transportation companies such as Uber and Taxify are fully operational in Lagos.
Time duration and distance between airport and the venue is 40 min (34.1 km)

2. Are there modern venues (WiFi/Maneuverability/Catering)?

Yes, there are. Lagos has several centers for all technology and business summit, with top-notch facilities and state-of-the-art hotels to house all guests and attendees. Lagos state boost of great infrastructure to host an event like Devcon 7.

3. Are there venues with the capacity to host between 5-10k+ people?

Yes

4. What are attractions in or around the city, and how close are they to the venue?


Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city, some of the attractions includes; Third Mainland Bridge. Third Mainland Bridge is the longest bridge in Nigeria and the second longest in Africa, Nigerian National Museum, New Afrikan Shrine, Jhalobia Recreation Park and Gardens, Freedom Park, National Arts Theatre, La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort, Hi Impact Planet, and a host of others.

Ethereum community and Impact

1. How does the Ethereum community look like in this region (e.g.: existing large community/ small but growing rapidly, etc.)?

There are a host of Ethereum communities some of which are Ethereum Diamond, Africa Blockchain Alliance, Web3Bridge, just to mention a few. Web3Brigde for instance trained seasoned developers in the Ethereum ecosystem, that have in turn developed 7+ dApps, and organized several hackathons, seminars, and workshops.

2. What is the potential of Ethereum to have an impact in that region?

The majority of the population is between 15 and 60, one clear impact Ethereum can have is to drive blockchain adoption, which will not only vibrate across Nigeria but the entire African continent.

The blockchain tech like any new technology industry has a lot of promise that would benefit any people/region.

3. How is hosting Devcon in that city benefiting the Ethereum ecosystem?


Collaborations would be built, alliances would be forged, that would further strengthen the Ethereum community in return fuel blockchain adoption, encourage existing developers and bring in a number of new developers into the ecosystem
