SEA Community Hub Proposal: Emergence in Diversity_Webpsy Labs

Summary of Proposal **

In today’s rapidly evolving technological era, the intersection of technology and the humanities is becoming a crucial driving force for future social change. Webpsy Labs, as a temporary lab, is dedicated to exploring and promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration and public engagement within the context of the crypto-humanist movement, co-creating and exploring the Solarpunk philosophy of spontaneity, public benefit, and sustainability.

Webpsy Labs is not just a physical space; it is a cross-cultural and cross-border public network where Cyberpunks, Zambian hippies, Crypto Nomads, Digital artists, Geek engineers, Data proletarians, Independent creators, Star Seed, community citizens, and multiple species coexist, collaborate, and create the future together.

Webpsy Labs aims to become a experimental place for cross-disciplinary collaboration in future societies. We hope not only to promote the integration of technology and the humanities but also to inspire global collaboration and innovation. We expect these ideas and methods to expand into broader fields, influencing more communities and individuals, and contributing to the creation of a more just and sustainable future.(webpsy.org

Content production and spatial planning

The content production and spatial planning of Webpsy Labs will center around openness, collaboration, and sharing. Through a series of carefully curated projects, the lab aims to create an environment conducive to cross-disciplinary cooperation. The specific plans are as follows:

Collaboration: The lab will host a series of participatory workshops to stimulate collaboration across different fields, fostering exchanges and integration between various disciplines.

Exhibition: The exhibition will be organized by a group of artists based in Chiang Mai, including healers, sound artists, and installation artists. The exhibition space will be divided into two sections, each named after historical events that significantly influenced technological progress in the last century. The goal is to explore the interaction between future technology and society through the lens of history.

Spontaneity and Permissionless Action: All activities within the space will adhere to the principles of spontaneity, permissionless action, and public participation. This means that participants are not just spectators but also active creators, free to contribute their ideas and insights and participate in the design and implementation of projects.

The Macy conferences(MC)

Providing projectors, round tables, paper, and other office equipment for ongoing cross-disciplinary conversations and open discussions.

*Between 1946 and 1953, after World War II, the Macy Conferences in New York, initiated by Warren McCulloch and the Macy Foundation, became one of the first interdisciplinary research organizations. Fields like network theory, cybernetics, information theory, synthetic intelligence, brain neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, and mechanical engineering collaborated across disciplines, leading to a paradigm shift that laid the theoretical groundwork for key scientific technologies we have today, like the internet, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and robotics.

The Whole Earth Catalog (WEC)

Set up the venue with a light camping vibe, featuring camping chairs, rugs, hammocks, and a DJ playing ambient music at a reasonable volume. We’ll have free coffee, drinks, and snacks to encourage the most relaxed socializing. There will be large graffiti boards showcasing knowledge maps of technologies like ETH and web3, where builders are welcome to display content related to personal projects, institutions, topics, theoretical tools, and more.

*The Whole Earth Catalog (WEC) was an American counterculture magazine and product catalog published by Stewart Brand several times a year between 1968 and 1972. The magazine featured essays and articles, but was primarily focused on product reviews.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whole_Earth_Catalog)

Hello, when can we expect to receive a definite response regarding our application proposal?"

Hi @laoli, thank you for your patience!

We hope to give the final outcomes to all the applicants early next week. Thank you very much once again for your interest in hosting a Community Hub at Devcon.

Hi there,

First of all, we would like to thank you for putting together this proposal!

The space allocated to Community Hubs is limited which means we can only accept a limited number of proposals.

Many of the proposals we received were very high quality and, unfortunately, we had to take hard decisions. There is simply not enough space to accommodate all of them.

With this post, I’d like to inform you that your proposal was not selected for this year’s Community space.

Again, thank you for showing initiative to contribute to the Devcon SEA experience and we hope to see you there soon nonetheless.

Best Regards,

Shyam & The Devcon team
