SEA Community Hub Proposal: Ethereum Career Hub

Summary of Proposal

The Ethereum Career hub would provide a dedicated space for aspiring builders to get practical advice, resources, and connections on how to start a career as an Ethereum builder. Topics include:

  • What working in crypto looks like
  • Career paths in the Ethereum ecosystem
  • How to work in crypto if you’re non-technical
  • How to contribute to open source crypto projects

Motivation and Rationale

There is an urgent need to onboard more people into working in web3. The hub would help nurture new talent and bridge the gap between experienced developers and newcomers. The hub format aligns with Ethereum’s community-centric ethos, fostering a sense of support among builders at different stages of their professional journey.

We would bring on a diverse group of people who work in crypto to share their journey to crypto: From interns, DAO contributors, community builders, event managers and experienced devs. Among the selected, we would aim to show diversity not just in age and gender, but also in geography.

Unlike a single talk or workshop, the hub would allow for ongoing engagement throughout the conference, where attendees can return multiple times during the event and ask questions.

Implementation

Tables, chairs, a screen, boards, pens & post it notes

Sample program:

AM:

  • Q&A with an experienced marketing rep about their journey to web3 marketing and the tools they use
  • Meetup for LATAM based individuals who can share their journey to crypto and the opportunities they found in their home countries

PM:

  • Dev focused discussions led by 3 senior Devs or Devrels:
  1. Introduction to web3 development
  2. How to assess an open sourced project vs picking a full time career with one project
  3. Day in the life of a DevRel
  • “Speed-dating” evening to match people hiring with people looking

Setup vision:

  • A big board where people can write where they are based and what their dream role is in Ethereum

  • Another “open-sourced” board for those who do work in crypto to share what has helped them the most to get started in crypto

  • A physical job board w ppl hiring & looking

  • The goal is to create an interactive space that lives on its own and people can contribute and benefit from it even when there is no workshop happening at that hour. It is also to make sure it’s not just another space with talks because the main program will already have that.

Team

Two reps from Crypto Nomads Club will be fully responsible for the Community Hub.

Why us:

  • We run a community for builders from around the world and based on our own experience we believe there is a need to help nurture talent to join and stay in the Ethereum ecosystem
  • We will act as neutral facilitators between both sides (guests and moderators).
  • We have the experience and have produced 30+ events globally ourselves
  • We know what questions builders ask when it comes to working in crypto - we get them a lot (both new and existing talent)
  • We have a big network of guests we can invite to lead discussions from all geographic regions and job positions

How to ensure it stays free from marketing:

  • We will not conduct any workshop or discussion ourselves to promote what we do (and what we do is not directly related to the main topic of the hub), only facilitate
  • We will ensure there is a diverse group of “speakers” and no two speakers come from the same project
  • We will inform everyone invited about the shill-free guideline

Hey there! Thanks for your proposal.

General Update on the Process

  • The RFP is open until the end of August.
  • Shortly after this (early first week of September), we will share which Community Hub proposals got accepted and will work with those accepted teams to fine-tune the proposals/hubs and how we can best meet their production requirements.

We’ll keep you updated, should we have any more questions!

Thanks!

Hi!

Thank you so much for your patience as we review all the community hub proposals. A quick update: We have extended the deadline to submit a community hub application by one week, to the 7th of September 2024 (AoE time). You can now expect to hear from us about the outcome of your proposal by mid-September.

Thank you again! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Hi there,

First of all, we would like to thank you for putting together this proposal!

The space allocated to Community Hubs is limited which means we can only accept a limited number of proposals.

Many of the proposals we received were very high quality and, unfortunately, we had to take hard decisions. There is simply not enough space to accommodate all of them.

With this post, I’d like to inform you that your proposal was not selected for this year’s Community space.

Again, thank you for showing initiative to contribute to the Devcon SEA experience and we hope to see you there soon nonetheless.

Best Regards,

Shyam & The Devcon team
