SEA Community Hub Proposal: Progcrypto hub

Summary of Proposal

A space to try out working applications built with ZK, MPC, FHE etc; learn about the “how and why” of programmable cryptography; and meet experts building in this cutting-edge space.

Motivation and Rationale

  • Get attendees engaged with ZK+ in real, useful and fun ways
  • Educate builders about the tools and new approaches that are possible with progcrypto
  • Supplement the ZK track by contextualizing with tangible experiences and providing a space for in-depth discussion, office hours, small-group coding sessions, etc

Implementation

Production requirements:

  • Printed posters and take-home materials (to be designed and sourced by PSE) - content focused on educating about concepts, not on promoting specific projects
  • Booth-style setup for attendees to experience and learn about ready-to-use tools like Semaphore, ZK Email, Anon Aadhaar, Backpocket, etc.
  • Seating for ~10 people for discussions/ad hoc sessions

Sample program:

  • All day, every day: walkup interactions with builders
  • Mornings: informal coding and design workshops
  • Afternoons: followup sessions to formal presentations/workshops - AMAs, discussions, office hours etc

Team

PSE will lead the organization and design. As a nonprofit, community-minded team within the EF, we don’t aim to push any specific protocol or product. We’re working to further the development of the progcrypto ecosystem - we welcome new explorers, builders, contributors and learners and want to bring that open atmosphere to Devcon! If this proposal is accepted we will actively seek collaborators to join us in the hub for demos and discussions.

  • Overall lead: Althea, PSE
  • Design lead: Kat, PSE
  • On-ground organization: Hodlon, PSE

Hi!

Thanks for putting together this proposal

General Update on the Process

  • The RFP is now open until September 7th 2024
  • Shortly after this (mid-September), we will share which Community Hub proposals got accepted and will work with those accepted teams to fine-tune the proposals/hubs and how we can best meet their production requirements.

We’ll keep you updated, should we have any more questions!

Thanks!

Hi there,

First of all, we would like to thank you for putting together this proposal!

The space allocated to Community Hubs is limited which means we can only accept a limited number of proposals.

Many of the proposals we received were very high quality and, unfortunately, we had to take hard decisions. There is simply not enough space to accommodate all of them.

With this post, I’d like to inform you that your proposal was not selected for this year’s Community space. However, we still recognise the importance of Programable Cryptography as a topic of discussion during Devcon, which is why we would like to explore other ways to involve this team in Devcon.

Again, thank you for showing initiative to contribute to the Devcon SEA experience and we hope to see you there soon nonetheless.

Best Regards,

Shyam & The Devcon team
