SEA Community Hub Proposal: The World of DeSci

Hi! Really exciting to see this post getting a lot of public engagement.

Thank you so much for your patience as we review all the community hub proposals. A quick update: We have extended the deadline to submit a community hub application by one week, to the 7th of September 2024 (AoE time). You can now expect to hear from us about the outcome of your proposal by mid-September.

Thank you again! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Amazing proposal, and such a great initiative - these ecosystem events lay the foundation for years of building. Molecule and bio would be super happy to sponsor, and provide travel grants to scientists :scientist: :woman_scientist:

This looks awesome - would love to contribute along with the bio.xyz team and bioDAOs

It is great to hear that.

As the co founder of DeSci Asia, i am happy to see this initiative.

In 2022, according to the DeSci Landscape Analysis, there are less than 10% of DeSci projects focusing in Asia.

It is 2024 now.

Pls pls follow the following twitter and try to invite them to be the speaker, support them, retweet their post or engage with them. They are working really hard to develop DeSci ecosystem in Asia.

Iā€™m thrilled to be attending Devcon this year!

As a member of AuraSci, GreenPill, and MesoReefDAO, Iā€™m particularly excited about the opportunity to connect with the Ethereum community in Southeast Asia.

Many Southeast Asian (SEA) communities have historically relied heavily on biodiversity, natural resources, and the goods and services provided by ecosystems. I would love to focus particularly on coral reef ecosystems in island regions. This reliance is deeply rooted in the cultural, economic, and social fabric of these communities.

I look forward to creating synergies with familiar faces from this chatbox in person and contributing to the broader Ethereum community at Devcon. This will be an invaluable opportunity to learn, network, and explore how we can leverage blockchain technology in DeSci and Web3 to drive a proactive and optimistic approach to our thriving world in the Anthropocene.

See you at Devcon! Letā€™s make the most of this incredible gathering of minds and make a real difference together.

Im not really sure that those are communities, or just you as all the other projects that you manage. In other, and more relevant topics, Iā€™ts great to see all the DeSci community gathering to make an event at DevCon, but do we donā€™t have any local community that can manage this initiative, why the other part of the world needs to coordinate an event where we are not really represented locally?

It would be great if the DeSci hub becomes a reality  Itā€™s great to see so many authors from the global ecosystem supporting this initiative. Iā€™m hopeful that this could be a great success for DeSci.

  1. this is web3; people are contributing to many projects
  2. its a fair question. However, if we want to create community infra in other countries, it is most efficient to get local enthusiasts in touch with the top projects in the space, to speed up their project growth, networking and ideation. More people and more ideas presented to locals is literally never a bad thing. The onus is then on the local communities to create!

Iā€™m Rokon from GitData.AI, and I wanted to express our enthusiastic support for ā€œThe World of DeSciā€ proposal at DevCon Southeast Asia.

The vision of bringing decentralized science (DeSci) to a wider audience, particularly within the Web3 and Ethereum communities, aligns closely with our mission at GitData.AI to advance open, transparent, and decentralized research.

Get ready for something big! The World of DeSci at DevCon Southeast Asia is set to be a game-changing event that will bring together the best of technology and science, and show just how much potential blockchain has to revolutionize the field. Weā€™re thrilled to feature projects from Argentina and Latam, showcasing our regionā€™s vibrant contributions and innovative spirit on a global stage. Letā€™s make the most of this amazing opportunity to foster collaboration, innovation, and growth. Together, we can drive the future of science and technology. Letā€™s go, The World of DeSci!

@Shyam_Sridhar

Hey, Iā€™m not sure what concerns you have but very happy to discuss them. This proposal was started by the DeSci LATAM and DeSciWorld teams, but we are working directly with the entire DeSci community. We are currently coordinating in a Telegram channel with over 75 participants from across the space. If you want to be invited please give me your TG ID. As you can see from my above comment, the space is being divided into 8 sessions, each led by a different community. BioDAOs and DeSciWorld are also completely different communities with very differeny focuses. Happy to discuss any concerns that you might have!

Hi there,

Thank you again for putting together this proposal!

Weā€™re excited to let you know that your proposal has been selected as a Community Hub for this yearā€™s Devcon!

Whatā€™s next?

  1. Submit a DIP: To confirm your commitment, please submit a DIP in our DIP repository. This helps us track all community initiatives, and your Hub will be featured in the DIPs section of the Devcon website. Please tag proposal with ā€˜Community Hubā€™. Hereā€™s an example from last year.
  2. Production details: Weā€™ll collaborate with our production team to prepare a manual covering all the logistics for your space. Expect it within the next week or two.
  3. Program planning: Weā€™ll work with you to refine your program and offer feedback to help create an amazing experience for Devcon attendees.
  4. Communication channels: Weā€™ll set up the necessary channels to stay in touch from now until the end of Devcon.

Thank you again for your initiativeā€”we canā€™t wait to see your Community Hub come to life at Devcon SEA!

Best Regards,

Shyam & The Devcon Team
