DIP-71: Pop-up Neighborhood during DevConnect

Title: DevConnect Pop-up Neighborhood in Palermo

:brain: What do you suggest?

On-Chain Booking(.)com

We’ve all fallen to FOMO and looked for last minute accommodations during major web3 conferences. Let’s fix that and buy as many hotel rooms as we can near the DevConnect venue, convert them to tokens, and allow people to buy them using crypto instead of AirBnB and Booking.com. Since they are tokenized, these reservations can be traded, so no harm, no foul if you buy one but can’t make it to Buenos Aires. You might even make some money doing so!

:dart: Motivation & Rationale

  • How does this improve the attendee experience?
Imagine being able to stay with all your friends, 5 minutes from the venue. Ethereum has been building communities through Zuzalu’s ecosystem for the past few years, so why not make a Pop-up Neighborhood during our events, like DevConnect? Seems like a reasonable step forward that can also make the experience better for everyone.

  • What Ethereum use case does it showcase?
Tokenization of a new asset class - real estate yield (in this case - hotel reservations). This is a new kind of DApp, which can showcase the power of Ethereum in unlocking liquidity and democratizing market access.

:hammer_and_wrench: Implementation

  • Have you done this before at another event?
Yes, we’ve done this thrice, once in Lisbon for Arc Lisbon, and twice in Thailand, during Chiang Mai’s Archipelago and DevCon. We are also doing this at scale during EthCC - more information on our activity in Cannes soon.

  • How will you make it happen?
Nothing - I think we area all set for now, we just want to get feedback and invite you all to join us. If you have questions or concerns, please also let us know for future iterations of the product.

:gear: Operational Requirements & Ownership

  • What’s needed to make this work at Devcon/nect?
We just need to have a successful first launch at EthCC. We will then use all our proceeds to book hotels in Buenos Aires. A small grant would help, but more than anything we want you all there staying with us.

  • Who will be responsible for running it on site?
    Xenofon (me) and ZuCasa’s team.

  • What other projects could this integrate with?
We would be very interesting with integrating account abstraction to the user profiles of our MVP platform. We would also love to integrate with existing web3 communities and DAOs that want to stay together but may be facing crypto-to-fiat off-ramp issues.

I honestly think we need this, that way we can get the best accommodations early

I support this idea and proposal, as is very needed to give clear and as many options as possible to all the people that will be attending Devconnect.

Thanks for the Idea! We had something similar already with windingtree (which unfortunately was winding down)

I think this can be a thing we can do again this DEVConnect. Would also love if this could be extended to something where it brings people together. E.g. booking a bigger apartment close to the venue and then tokenizing the different sleeping rooms in there.
