Event Date:

November 12-15

Describe Your Event:

The World of DeSci at DevCon aims to introduce the DeSci movement to the DevCon community, promoting it among developers and the Ethereum community. The objectives are:

  • Position Science as a Public Good: Establish DeSci as a key player in making science a public good.

  • Diverse Discussions: Create a platform to discuss how web3 technology can address structural problems in science (funding, publications, data management, etc.).

  • Tool Development: Develop new tools and platforms to tackle these issues.

  • Community Onboarding: Attract diverse individuals to the DeSci movement, enhancing its plurality and global reach.

To achieve this, we aim to secure a dedicated space within the DevCon venue for:

  • Talks and Workshops: Featuring international DeSci leaders to disseminate projects, conduct workshops, and facilitate networking.

  • Hackathon: Hosting a decentralized science hackathon.

Team/Individuals Description:

DeSci LATAM: Founded in June 2022, DeSci LATAM aims to drive Latin American science by bridging the scientific community and blockchain ecosystem. They address the lack of blockchain knowledge, visibility of scientific projects, funding, and language barriers by providing information in Spanish and Portuguese.

DeSci World: Since 2021, DeSci World has been aggregating information and promoting DeSci culture globally through events and talks. Their first technical product, Proof of Knowledge (PoK), uses a decentralized architecture to validate and reward knowledge contributions.

Expected Number of Attendees:

3000

Target Audience:

  • Scientists

  • Developers

  • DeSci Communities

  • Science Enthusiasts

Projects:

  • DeSciWorld

  • CoopHive

Confirmed Sponsors:

  • CoopHive

Proposed Tasks and Roadmap:

  • Host a pan-Asia online hackathon for DeSci (August - November)

  • Host a hacker house prior to the event, culminating at DevCon with presentations of winners

  • Facilitate discussions and networking at the DevCon venue

  • Invite guests, sponsors, researchers, and other academic organizations

  • Host workshops, presentations, panels, and discussions about DeSci and its promise

Something else!

We aim to create a small section within the event for global DeSci communities such as LATAM, Africa, Japan, Korea, China, Rio, etc., to interact with attendees. This space would foster contributor gathering and potential funding for unique scientific initiatives these communities face.
