SEA Community Hub Proposal:African Eth Community Hub

This Community Hub will serve as the heart of the African blockchain narrative at Devcon. Our focus is on showcasing the transformative impact of Ethereum across Africa, highlighting how it has empowered communities, spurred innovation, and brought about significant socio-economic changes. We aim to provide a platform where African voices can be heard, ideas can be exchanged, and a shared vision for the future of Africa’s involvement in the global Ethereum ecosystem can be cultivated.

Through this hub, we will:

  • Share the stories of how Ethereum has reshaped lives and industries across different African regions.
  • Provide a guide for more Africans to discover and join our vibrant communities, learn, build, and contribute to the Ethereum ecosystem.
  • Showcase the growth and potential of the African blockchain landscape, inspiring others to get involved.

What Will You Offer to Devcon Attendees?

Our Community Hub will be an immersive and dynamic space where attendees can deeply connect with the African blockchain experience. We will offer:

  • Interactive Storytelling: Through videos, music, and testimonials, attendees will journey through the African blockchain landscape, learning about the unique challenges and successes faced by communities across the continent.
  • Panels and Discussions: Engage with African leaders and innovators in panel discussions that explore the current state of blockchain in Africa, the role of public goods, and the future of tech in the region.
  • Networking and Collaboration: Opportunities for Devcon attendees to connect with African projects, startups, and individuals, fostering collaborations that extend beyond the conference.
  • Cultural Immersion: Experience the vibrant culture of Africa through music, art, and interactive exhibits that highlight the continent’s rich heritage and its intersection with modern technology.
  • Surprises and Takeaways: Attendees will leave with unique African-themed merch, POAPs, and possibly more surprises that celebrate the spirit of innovation and collaboration within the African community.

Hey there!

Thank you so much for your proposal—it’s fantastic to see all the ETH African communities coming together to execute this community hub. Since the theme of your proposed Community Hub overlaps with the Community Gardeners Hub, it would be great if both teams could collaborate to create a larger hub that features ETH communities from all around the world!

Additionally, we’ll consider this application for allocating a dedicated space for the African community to establish their own hub. However, we need to be mindful of the available space and take other Community Hub applications into account as well.

General Update on the Process

  • The RFP is open until the end of August.
  • Shortly after that (early September), we’ll announce which Community Hub proposals have been accepted and will work with those teams to fine-tune their proposals and ensure their production needs are met.

Also, please be informed that Community Hubs should complement the program that is happening on the stages, and there will be no microphones in these areas. Additionally, should you wish to record the programs happening in the space, you would need to (1) Source and manage your own equipment for this, and (2) Respect the privacy of the spaces around.

We’ll keep you updated if we have any further questions.

Thanks again!

Looks like another proposal also dropped - SEA Community Hub Proposal : GM (Global Majority) Hub

Again, would be cool to see all teams working together

Hi!

Thank you so much for your patience as we review all the community hub proposals. A quick update: We have extended the deadline to submit a community hub application by one week, to the 7th of September 2024 (AoE time). You can now expect to hear from us about the outcome of your proposal by mid-September.

Thank you again! In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Super. A space safe enough to welcome everyone anywhere to have a voice just as we did for muAccra.

Hi there,

First of all, we would like to thank you for putting together this proposal!

The space allocated to Community Hubs is limited which means we can only accept a limited number of proposals.

Many of the proposals we received were very high quality and, unfortunately, we had to take hard decisions. There is simply not enough space to accommodate all of them.

With this post, I’d like to inform you that your proposal was not selected for this year’s Community space. However, we still encourage you to reach out and collaborate with the GM Community Hub, if that is of interest to both teams.

Again, thank you for showing initiative to contribute to the Devcon SEA experience and we hope to see you there soon nonetheless.

Best Regards,

Shyam & The Devcon team
