The World of DeSci in Devconnect - Buenos Aires 2025
Summary:
The World of DeSci is an initiative aimed at introducing the decentralized science (DeSci) movement to Ethereum ecosystem communities, to showcase the potential of blockchain-based and decentralization-promoting technologies to transform science into a public good. We aim for The World of DeSci to become the go-to DeSci space at Devconnect, where participants can connect and collaborate with the Ethereum DeSci community, as well as with local academics and researchers. This participation in Devconnect will represent one of the key milestones in the Road to DeSci: ETH LATAM + Devconnect. Following the success of The World of DeSci Community Hub 2024 at Devcon, we are proud to count on a network of collaborators who will represent our region and contribute to this new initiative. This proposal has two main objectives:
- To onboard scientists and researchers from diverse academic backgrounds to web3 and DeSci.
- To introduce crypto native developers and the general Ethereum community to DeSci.
For achieving these goals, we will have:
- A dedicated space (booth) with DeSci referents where these different types of people can interact with each other. This space will focus specially on onboarding academics.
- Talks and workshops.
- A hackathon oriented to ethereum native developers to introduce them to DeSci problematics
Following the success of the The World of DeSci at Devcon Bangkok Hub organization, we propose to replicate the same at Devconnect. Motivation also relies on the fact that people attending DevConnect in Bs As most probably did not attend to DevCon. The Hub will be organized into thematic days, each addressing a different dimension of the decentralized science ecosystem.

Motivation and rationale:
While DeSci has gained visibility in some global hubs, it remains largely underrepresented in the global Ethereum community. Latin America, with its vibrant academic scene and growing Web3 adoption, is fertile ground for DeSci. Hosting a Community Hub during Devconnect in Argentina allows us to:
-
Introduce and onboard local academics to the Ethereum community and thus to the DeSci ecosystem.
-
Expose local developers and researchers to DeSci tools and frameworks.
-
Invite global DeSci referents to connect with the LATAM community.
-
Inspire new contributors to explore science as a field for Web3 innovation, beyond DeFi, NFTs, and infrastructure.
This Hub is a key opportunity to position DeSci as a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven field with real-world impact.
Implementation:
To realize this vision, we will set up a dedicated space during Devconnect Argentina that enables:
-
Global DeSci Community Interactions: Featuring voices from LATAM, Africa, Asia, and more, the Hub will host panels, discussions, and networking sessions for communities to share regional challenges, explore collaboration, and co-design solutions.
-
Education and Exposure: Project demos, onboarding stations, and thematic sessions will help researchers and developers learn about DeSci and find ways to contribute.
-
Decentralized Growth of DeSci DAY: After more than 8 months of continuous work following DevCon, multiple DeSci events have emerged around the world, many organized by those who participated in the original Hub. What began as a single initiative has now evolved into DeSci DAY, which is hosted in a decentralized manner by diverse projects and ecosystem actors, upholding the core values of decentralized science. In alignment with the Ethereum ethos, we open this proposal to anyone who wants to contribute and co-create a Hub that is even stronger and more impactful than last year.

Something else!
We plan to organize a road trip to DeSci as a lead-up to the Hub. Our idea is to start with our participation in ETH LATAM, taking place in SĂŁo Paulo from November 6 to 9. The DeSci presence at ETH LATAM will be led by MarĂa Goretti, who is the national representative of DeSci in Brazil and will be the Hub lead for this event.
Following ETH LATAM, we plan to travel to Buenos Aires and host a DeSci spot in the city to help facilitate the setup and organization of the Community Hub for Devconnect. This journey will allow us to build stronger regional collaboration and make it easier to coordinate logistics on the ground.
If this plan moves forward, we will also work to secure travel scholarships for students from universities in Argentina and neighboring countries, allowing them to attend the conference and engage with leading figures and projects in the DeSci ecosystem. This will strengthen regional participation, promote inclusion, and open doors for future contributors to decentralized science.
