If you were at Devcon VI Bogotá in 2022, you might have heard about or visited the typical Colombian ‘Chiva’ that served as the community hub for Latam. This initiative started here in this forum as a proposal aimed at building communities and creating a representative space where all cultures could find a home. This time, we want to revisit this proposal and turn it into something representative for all Devcons.
The ETH Torch:
“The ETH Torch” aims to create a representative space at Devcon 7 to facilitate cultural exchange among Ethereum’s global communities. Inspired by the previous “Chiva Community HUB” from Devcon 6, this initiative seeks to expand community integration on a global scale.
Drawing a parallel to the Olympic torch relay—an invention inspired by ancient Greek practices, which announces the beginning of the games and conveys a message of peace and friendship throughout its journey—we want “The ETH Torch” to symbolize the ability to carry the Ethereum network to every corner of the world, connecting nodes of collaboration, innovation, and progress.
This initiative seeks to highlight the connection between cultures that, at first glance, seem very different but actually have much in common to share. In this way, the country carrying the torch collaborates with the new host to create a community space that unites the cultures and wisdom of both the previous and the current Devcon editions.
Objectives:
Create a space at Devcon 7 dedicated to cultural exchange.
Integrate and build together global communities within the Ethereum ecosystem.
Establish a tradition where the country from the previous Devcon edition contributes a representative element in collaboration with the new Devcon host.
Two years ago, we planted a seed in everyone who visited the Chiva Community Hub Latam. We believe that Devcon is a unique space to build relationships that transcend the material world and become blockchain connections. This initiative aims to be a part of Devcon’s history, that is why it must be built together. We invite you to participate and share your opinions.
The proposal aims for a delegation from the previous host (Colombia) to travel and bring a symbolic item representing the “ETH Torch.” We have established contact with the ETHPadThai community and, after several meetings exchanging cultural experiences, we discovered that Thailand also has a coffee tradition. Given the significance of the host country and the previous venue, we propose bringing Colombian Coffee as a representation of the ETH Torch
Make this Exchange Culture from one DEVCON host to another DEVCON host. This could be great to integrate LATAM Culture x SEA Culture. We are ready, to co-create this initiative with others community.
From ETHColombia, we can make efforts to present a delegated team from our community.
Just like it’s important to build with open-source tools, it’s also crucial to form relationships that help boost Ethereum’s name. The “ETH Torch” initiative can create great synergy, promoting cultural and knowledge exchange.
This collaboration will benefit not only the current generation but also future ones, making the ecosystem stronger and more united. By joining forces and sharing experiences, we can drive Ethereum’s global growth and adoption
